Horiemon still wants Sony but settles for a PS3 for now
Let us tell you a modern day children’s story for a while. Listen well and listen good. We don’t want this to happen to you…
The story is about Takafumi Horie. Known in Japan as Horie-mon, Horie is considered by many as a whizkid. He began Livedoor, a Tokyo-based website design operations that grew into a portal for various businesses. For ten years, he led Livedoor and for ten years, the company prospered. In fact, he became so successful that he once revealed he’s planning to take over ownership of Sony.
Unfortunately for Horie, he was arrested back in January for falsely reporting profits to hide his companyÂ’s debts. Almost one year into his arrest, Horie is still determined to acquire the multi-billion dollar corporation. He stated in his latest interview what he plans to do with the company:
If you allow me to speak without reservation, I would sell the electronics and the PlayStation units and concentrate resources on portable devices like mobile phones.
He admitted however that his days as an entrepreneur are over. According to him, he would like to focus on space industry and life science business. Lastly, he kind of shyly mentioned that he actually owns a PS3. When asked why he bought one for himself, Horie claimed, “The machine is such a good buy. The graphics are amazingly clear. They created an incredible thing.”
Takafumi Horie is currently on bail. The trial over his case started last September 4 and ended almost after three months. The decision of the court is expected some time in February of 2007.
