How to Sell an Xbox 360 in Japan

I guess all things in Japan are just beyond our scope of understanding. Don’t misconstrue what I said. I love everything Japanese. I find it intriguingly unique and fascinatingly captivating. However this commercial by famous Japanese band Tokio, although a very typical ad, would have been effective hadn’t it been trying to sell a game console. And a damn serious console at that. A song entitled “do! do! do!” isn’t helping this commercial one bit.

As a viewer, I would have preferred them actually playing with the product with an actual game or something like a comic skit, to keep the fangirls gushing. This Xbox 360 ad for the 2006 World Cup could be a very good role model for future Japanese XBox 360 ads. Maybe sales will pick up.
