pokeshifterAs with previous Pokémon games, players will be able to transfer Pokémon from the older games to Pokémon Black & White. It’s not just a matter of linking up a pair of DSes, though. You gotta go through a minigame first.

The minigame is called “Pokéshifter” and can be accessed through a building found in an as-yet-unknown location in Isshu. The building will be familiar to longtime Poképlayers, though, as it resembles Sinnoh and Kanto’s Pal Park.

To transfer Pokémon, you’ll need a pair of DSes — one with Black & White and another with a main Gen IV game. When you connect, you’ll see an option in the Gen IV game that will let you move up to six Pokémon. There has been no mention of time limits yet.

Once the Pokémon are moved, you’ll need to capture them in Black & White via the Pokéshifter minigame. The transferred Pokémon will pop in and out of a bunch of bushes while you try to capture them with a stylus-controlled Pokéball launcher. Note that the Pokéshifter minigame seems to have its own time limit.

Pokémon Black & White comes out in the west in Spring 2011.
