Huge Wii shipment arrives in Europe
Nintendo’s flying pretty high up in the clouds these days. Their new Wii console launched in the U.S. on November 19 and sold over 600,000 consoles in just one week – an impressive rate of nearly one console sold per second continuously since the launch date. Now the company is getting ready to duplicate the success of the Wii’s U.S. launch, this time in Europe.
A huge shipment of Wiis has now arrived in Europe ahead of the December 8 launch date and with an unprecedented number of pre-orders having been taken, it’s highly likely that people will be lining up around the block for the European launch too. Nintendo already has reached an installed base of 7 million in Europe with the DS, a success which Wii aims to replicate in the home.
Says Laurent Fischer, Marketing Director, Nintendo of Europe, “WeÂ’re launching a great product and we knew that demand would be high. NintendoÂ’s expansion of the gaming market is paying dividends and Wii really is the ‘must have’ item for Christmas. Obviously, weÂ’re doing everything we can to make sure that everyone who wants one, gets one.”
