Hyena v1.02 – AudioGame Player

The Hyena logo - Image 1Instead of reading a book, how does the thought of listening to a book sound to you? Fortunately, homebrew developer Jens Andersson‘s brainchild, the Hyena v1.02 AudioGame Player for the Nintendo DS, will allow you to do exactly that.

Inspired by the popular AudioBook format, Hyena v1.02 is basically an “AudioGameBook” that combines the convenience of the AudioBook with the interactive storytelling fun of the GameBook. As a fan of both formats, developer Jens Andersson set out to create a GameBook player for a handheld platform that doesn’t require the use of a screen – only sound and a button.

And since it would help to have something to listen to straight away, Andersson decided to include a speech-synthesized version of a classic GameBook title – Lone Wolf: Flight From The Dark, by Joe Dever and Gary Chalk – as part of the package deal.

Before you there are at least two things you should know: one, Andersson made use of an external Lua file to define the logic behind Lone Wolf: Flight From The Dark; two, as with all other homebrew games, kindly exercise caution when downloading and installing the program on your Nintendo DS.
