IDEA Games starts new online distribution system
With the success of Valve’s Steam platform and IGN’s Direct2Drive, more and more videogame developers are turning towards online distribution to get their games out to the masses.
For one group of developers, however, jumping on the whole online distribution wagon didn’t mean they had to catch a ride with one of the aforementioned two. What they did instead was create their own system.
Dubbed Sprocket, this new online distribution system is the brainchild of IDEA Games, a gathering of independent game developers. According to Martin Klima, Lead Producer at IDEA Games, “The main reason we developed such a tool was to distribute the games of IDEA GamesÂ’ members to players around the world, without the limitation of release dates or territories.”
Sprocket has three games available right now: The first two games of the UFO trilogy from ALTAR Games – UFO: Aftermath and UFO: Aftershock – and the fantasy action game Shade: Wrath of Angels by Black Element Software. Other titles from IDEA Games members will definitely be coming soon, so keep checking QJ for updates on which games will be released next and when. For now, check out the boxart of Sprocket’s first three offerings below.
