IFA: Latest Sony Blu-ray Disc Demo: 40Mbit/s Video Playback
Sony has revealed a demonstration of its own Blu-ray Disc on IFA2005.
2 features were demonstrated this time. The first one is high speed encoder support. The encoding speed of Blu-ray standard BD-ROM data is 54Mbit/s, thus making video playback on 40Mbit/s possible. In the demonstration, a video which implemented on the maximum limit of the specification was demonstrated to the public. The encoding of the demo was using MPEG-2. The hardware for processing this kind of data is still unclear.
