IGN Thinks the Wii Will Arrive in October

OctoberIn the past month, there have been three (here, here, and here) occasions in which we reported news that might point to an October launch for the Wii. In today’s mailbag Matt Casamassina, editor-in-chief of IGN Wii, indicated that he shared these views.

“I’ve seen some third party game release schedules and all of them indicate the same thing, which is that they are planning to launch their respective Wii games this October. Nintendo, meanwhile, has only said that Wii will launch “in the fourth quarter,” which includes October. I think it’s planning to go earlier than expected in order to get the jump on Sony.”

Everything seems absolutely logical. Although the fact that all the third parties have October in their release calendars could be purely coincidental, it’s unmistakable that launching before the PS3 would be more beneficial than after. Nintendo themselves have stated that launching last was not a desirable position for them.
