In the second developer betas of Apple, everything was brand-new.
Apple has released the third round of developer Betas for 2024. This includes new Apple Intelligence features
Apple released Wednesday the third developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18,1 and macOS Sequoia 151. Here’s what you need to know. Apple’s latest developer betas include support for two Apple Intelligence features: a new Clean-Up tool for the Photos application, and a notification summarization option. These two features were first shown at WWDC in early June, but are only now available to beta testers. Both features — notification summary and the new Clean Up feature — are only available on Apple Intelligence-enabled devices. To use AI-related features, you’ll need an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max as well as an iPad or Mac that has an M1 chip or higher. Clean Up, available in the Photos app, allows users to remove unwanted objects using Apple’s AI software. Users can circle, tap or brush unwanted objects to remove them from a photograph. Apple’s AI software is able to detect and highlight unwanted objects. Tapping the unwanted object will remove it. Apple’s AI can also be used to circle or paint over objects that aren’t automatically detected. It is possible to remove an object from an image in full or part by selecting it this way. Apple’s AI software fills the rest of the image to make it appear as if the unwanted object never existed. Images that are altered using the feature will still be clearly labelled as edited with Clean up for convenience. You can also undo all changes and restore the original image. AppleInsider broke the news about Apple’s Clean Up in an exclusive report published more than one month before the feature had been announced at WWDC. Apple Intelligence will summarize your notifications Also included in Apple’s third set of developer betas, is a brand-new feature for summarizing notifications. Summarization was only available in the default Mail and Messages applications in earlier versions iOS 18.1 beta. The company’s most recent release extends support to more apps. Apple has added a new screen to the iOS 18.1 setup that allows users to choose which apps will use notification summarization. This feature can be enabled both for system apps and third-party apps. Users can update their preferences by going to System Settings > Alerts > Summary Previews. Users can disable or enable the feature here and select which apps use notification summarization. Apple’s AI on the device is used to create summary notifications. Users will be able to quickly access key information about notifications and groups of them. Apple Intelligence will allow users to get a summary of their recent conversations, emails, and news articles. These summaries will be displayed on the Lock Screen. AppleInsider, as with the Clean Up feature, first described Apple’s summary features months before the release. This was done by our reports on Project Blackpearl and Project GreyMatter. The third developer beta for macOS Sequoia allows you to install App Store applications directly on an external drive. While the Clean Up tool, notification summarization and other Apple platforms are available across all platforms, macOS Sequoia received a system upgrade. The third developer beta for macOS Sequoia 151, the App Store, allows users to install applications directly on an external drive. This setting allows macOS to automatically install App Store applications greater than 1 GB onto an external drive if one is plugged-in. According to 9to5mac the setting only applies to applications larger than one gigabyte. Apps with smaller file sizes are installed directly on the internal drive. This feature is especially useful for Mac users with lower storage capacities, such as 256GB. macOS Sequoia removes some requirements for app installation. In earlier versions of macOS users had to have enough space to install an app. Starting with macOS Sequoia, this is no longer true. MacOS Sequoia is a complete operating system that includes a number of innovative features. These include Math Notes within the Calculator application and Safari Highlights. macOS Sequoia will be made available to all users along with iOS 18 & iPadOS 18 in the Fall 2024. Apple Intelligence will be released later.
