Indie game devs losing slots in XBLA?
Is there a concerted effort from Microsoft and major publishers to curb the flow of independent games on Xbox Live Arcade? Several ‘concerned’ developers have noted that Microsoft has in fact “dramatically reduced” the number of indie games on the said online games service.
Is there a concerted effort from Microsoft and major publishers to curb the flow of independent games on Xbox Live Arcade? Several ‘concerned’ developers have noted that Microsoft has in fact “dramatically reduced” the number of indie games on the said online games service.
WA Today is reporting that this move is in response to the growing size of available content online. As it stands, the “slots” for indie game devs on XBLA have dwindled to a mere 35. The inde game devs have also complained about the existence of what seems to be a sort of double standards when it comes to XBLA rules.
“Independent games [are] rejected for being too similar to an existing title on the service, yet major publishers were able to flood it with retro remakes.”
Microsoft has yet to respond on this matter.
