Initial look at FF Tactics’ localization development

Final Fantasy Tactics - Image 1The guys over at online site Siliconera were able to get hold of the U.S. and European version of video game Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War and according to their initial look, localization is looking great.

Aside from the secret characters we’ve learned so far, it seems like Square Enix did spend some time polishing this title. According to the above mentioned site, localization for The Lion War was handled by the same team who did Final Fantasy XII and there are certain features added that are not present in the Japanese version.

The most obvious of these is that cut scenes in the U.S./Europe version are fully voiced. Those who’ve seen the Japanese version would know that the cut scenes in that build are just silent movies. Certain words and names were also changed, as noted by Siliconera: “magic” was turned to “magick”; the “Lancer” class will be known as “Dragoon”; and the “Oracle” class will be named “Mystic”.

Based on these things, we have to say that having Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War a little later is worth it. Even though some wouldn’t pay much attention to the small details mentioned above, a good localization process does help indeed with the overall gaming experience.
