In-Stat: Reduced PSP Prices By End of 2006?
The year 2005 was bumper year for the handheld game consoles. But 2006 paints a very different picture. After the dust has settled, only Nintendo’s DS and Sony‘s PSP remain standing in the arena littered with the carcasses of Nokia N-Gage, Tapwave Zodiac, and Gizmondo.
While Nintendo’s other gladiator, the Game Boy line, is still alive, Nintendo is about to let it go in favor of the highly successful DS and DS Lite. Next year would be Game Boy’s last year on the planet.
In-Stat, a multimedia research organization also speculates a possible PSP price slashing before the end of the year. The company’s prediction came after the DS Lite turned the sales table on the PSP this year. In Japan, the black DS lite sold out in matter of days after its launch. In-Stat says Sony‘s counter offensive would probably be a price cut in all major markets before the year ends.
If true, this would be the second round of price cut for the PSP. Early this year Sony reduced PSP prices in North American, Europe and Japan.
