Interview With Keiji Inafune About Capcom’s Dead Rising

Keiji InafuneDead risingI don’t know about you, but the question lingering in my mind about this new game from Capcom is how different Dead Rising is going to be compared to the other Capcom game Resident Evil.

Fortunately, this interview from the Official Xbox Magazine XBOX 360 with Keiji Inafune, head of Capcom Production Studio Number 2, cleared up some things about Capcom’s newest game, Dead Rising.

Asked about the major difference between the two games, Inafune says that Dead Rising is less serious than Resident Evil. But in what way?

“If I was going to explain it in simple terms, it would be that Resident Evil is more of a focus on horror and Dead Rising is more of a focus on comedy. Resident Evil is very intense. It’s serious, it’s dark, you’re always worried if you’re going to die. Dead Rising is more ‘have fun, jump in there’, whether you want to try and run away from the zombies or just beat them up with all the items that you see.”

With that part all cleared up, I guess it’s really appealing to get Dead Rising now, especially because the developers have also trimmed down the game’s duration from ten days in the mall to just three. Inafune says it was done so the players wouldn’t feel the game becoming a drag.

This was one of the recent changes made to the game, according to Capcom. Dead Rising was only 95% complete at the time of the interview, as the developers are “finishing final balancing issues and trying to find all the bugs. It is quite an open-ended game, so trying to find all of the bugs is no easy task.”

The developer was also very honest in saying that the Japanese are better at making linear-type games, so they’re making sure that there are no bugs in this game.

The most appealing feature of Dead Rising (for me, that is) is that the player can grab ANYTHING in the mall to use against the zombies that are trying to get him. An umbrella would be a useful tool when you have to hit all the dead in your way to clear a path to another safer place. If that isn’t exciting enough for you, see what the developer’s favorite method against the zombies is:

“My favourite is the simple use of a weapon that is the industrial power drill. You shove it into the zombie, turn it on, the zombie will start to fly around really quickly, body parts will start to fly off of the zombie, blood will shoot everywhere and then you’ll throw the torso on the ground.”

If that’s not exciting, I don’t know what is!
