Interview with Phil Harrison
An interview was held with Sony-Executive Phil Harrison by Spiegel Online. The interview hits every little nook and cranny of the hot issues of the PS3. And even MySpace for some God-forsaken reason.
In the interview, Spiegel Online brought up the fact of the PS3 possibly “copying” the Wii with the motion sensitive controllers. In response Phill Harrison said “It’s a little stupid, if you don’t mind me saying so. When we launched Playstation in 1994 we introduced the concept of real time computer generated 3-D graphics for the first time. That was the innovation that drove the platform. When Nintendo released the N64 in 1996 and they had real-time CG 3-D-graphics, did you hear us say, ‘Nintendo, you’ve stolen our idea?’ Of course not…”
Later on in the interview he did state that practically all of the first year PS3 games will uses the motion sensitivity in some way or another. This being a big plus for the PS3 in the console wars. Also later on in the interview he goes on to say that the Blu-Ray discs will have no need for copy protection due to the massive size of the files. Which when thought about, does make a good deal of sense.
But then, if you didn’t think the article wasn’t funny enough, Phil then goes and uses Myspace as an example, a role model, to how he envisions the PS3’s networking should be like.
