iPhone or iPod Touch now required for University of Florida Pharmacy students

As of this incoming Fall 2009, they are requiring Pharmacy students to have their own units. And no, this is not a joke.

As of this incoming Fall 2009, they are requiring Pharmacy students to have their own units. And no, this is not a joke.

The University of Florida becomes the second school in months to announce this new requirement for their students. According to a directive from the College of Pharmacy:

Important notice!

As of 6/26/09 all incoming fall 2009 PharmD students are required to have an iPod touch. An iPhone will also meet this requirement. Incoming fall 2009 students are not required to purchase clickers. These students will use the iPod Touch with special software instead of ‘clicker’ devices. Details are posted in the Computer & Technology Orientation Site.

“These are the instruments at the forefront that are developing applications for medical use by the hundreds,” explained Dean William Riffee. “We want our students to become adept at using these mobile devices early on because we see this as the future in pharmacy practice.”

The University of Missouri preceded UF by a good three months in setting the same requirement, this time for their journalism students.
