iPhone struggling in China?

china-unicomWho says the iPhone is not selling in China? China Unicom has just announced that they have in fact sold 100,000 units already since its official launch in the country on October 30th. That’s a lot of units to be sold in just two months, right? Then again, when you’re talking about China, that does seem measly.

Then again, when you’re talking about China, that does seem measly.

China, if you must know, is the world’s largest wireless market by subscriber accounts. And with a population in the billions, 100,000 is indeed a very miniscule percentage. Analyst Paul Wu agrees with the previous Dow Jones report, calling this sales stat “disappointing.” He said, “iPhone sales have been very disappointing. For China Unicom, with 144 million subscribers, 100,000 iPhone users aren’t going to do anything for their revenue.”

Some of the factors considered to be the reason for this dismal performance would be the lack of WiFi, the highly competitive black market, and the phone model’s high prices.
