It’s potpourri this week for the very first iPhone Weekend Warrior! The homebrew scene’s got a couple of useful apps for you this week, and you’re bound to find at least one you like. In the game scene, a game analyst is touting the iPhone as the PSP killer. Agree, or disagree? Here’s the biggest iPhone news this week:

  • Game analyst Nicholas Lovell says that the iPod Touch will eventually kill off the PSP. The iPhone’s a great device, but I disagree. What about you? Link.
  • That said, it’s still good the iPhone’s getting some great games. id Software is releasing Wolfenstein RPG and Quake III for the iPhone. Link.
  • Unconventional, yet interesting. The iChange is a car that uses your iPhone as a key. It’s an all in one package for carjackers. Link.

Homebrew News:

  • Some hackers got an Apple wireless keypad working with the iPhone, but they’re not sharing the app just yet. Link.
  • PSP Homebrew developer Exophase releases a port for the TurboGrafx-16 Temper: temper4iphone
  • Add a swipe bar to the bottom of your iPhone screen as an alternative to the Home button: iHome
  • Add more VOIP providers to make cheap calls when you’re someplace with Wi-Fi: Siax (VOIP) Client
  • An application that will let you send an SMS without closing the app you’re currently running: QuickSMS

And finally, I leave you with a coup de grace. The sad, sad addition to the Metal Gear franchise, Metal Gear Solid Touch. Good mobile game, but a really crappy MGS game. A prime example of why the iPhone won’t be killing off the PSP anytime soon. Vid posted again for posterity! Link.
