Heads up, iPod Touch users! Remember when we reported that Firmware 2.1 will be available this Friday? Well, good news! The firmware is now out on iTunes, way ahead of schedule. Fancy that, eh? So what’s new in this update?
According to Steve Jobs when he spoke at the Let’s Rock event in San Francisco, the update will have fewer dropped calls, improvements to battery life, no crashing, a faster sync process, and lots of bug fixes.
The update will also have a “Genius” function, which can find similar songs in the music library and play them together. Aside from this, Microsoft Exchange, email, Powerpoint, and iWork have been improved with new features. The firmware now also has support for 30 keyboard layouts, 19 dictionaries, and 17 languages.
The update is free for those with version 2.0, but will cost US$ 10 for those updating from version 1.0. Unfortunately, the update isn’t available for the iPhone yet, but expect it to make the original release date this Friday.
