Sony PS3 - Image 1Is this a deal too good to be true? Down in Australia, several electronics consumers are complaining that they still haven’t received their free Sony PlayStation 3 consoles, which were supposed to be given for every purchase of a Bravia high-definition television set.

Apparently, Sony promised anyone who bought a Bravia can get a PS3 upon presenting an official receipt and providing the TV’s serial number. However, several people who took advantage of the promotion have yet to see or even touch their new PS3 units.

Sony had also promised that the consoles will be delivered within 28 days after purchase of the TV, but four months already passed and the PS3s still didn’t materialize for several customers. Sony claimed that they ran out of PlayStation 3 stocks. According to Tony Barbour, head of strategy and brand development at Sony Australia:

This was an extremely successful promotion and the PlayStation 3 has been an extremely desirable product. Sony has worked as quickly as possible to fulfil customer orders, which includes sourcing both Bravia LCD TVs and PlayStation 3 consoles from overseas, in order to satisfy the demand. We appreciate the patience of our customers during the delivery period.

However, many people refuted this statement, saying that local stores had plenty of PS3 stocks. “Marketing managers should take note as this type of failed scheme are turning people away in droves from their brand,” said an irate customer.
