Rumor no more. Sony Computer America has officially dropped the price of the already successful Sony PS2 console from the original price of $149 down to $129. This rollback is effective immediately. This price drop is consistent with the rumored figures given by analysts. The Sony people expect the price cut to fuel consumer demand amidst the inevitable launch of the Sony PS3. The console sold almost 275,000 units in North America in March, ahead of all other game hardware, including Xbox 360, which was continuing to suffer setbacks after setbacks during those times.
