It’s too early for PS3s on eBay

Did you buy that on eBay?We’ve talked about this business of auctioning off your PS3 pre-order for fun and profit. While we admire your entrepreneurial spirit during this time of great anticipation, eBay is shutting down PS3 auctions left and right.

There’s a simple reason for this. eBay’s policy basically states that if you can’t guarantee the item you’ve put up for auction within 30 days after the bidding ends, then you shouldn’t be putting up that particular auction. Since the PS3’s actual release date is around 36 days from now, that’s a violation of eBay policy, and your auction gets put down.

While we don’t exactly support the eBay thing 100%, there’s a large market out there for people who want to be the first to taste sweet console goodness. At the very least, it’s not exactly price gouging, since bidders up the prices, so here’s a little tip for people who actually want to try putting their PS3 up for auction. Wait six days. Better yet, wait a week, and then put it up. You get past the barrier of the policy that way.

Just make sure you actually have the goods you’re trying to sell, and for goodness’ sakes, start with a fair opening price, alright?
