Jack Tretton interview: of Sony’s fiscal year
Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, recently related his confidence for Sony’s future, saying that: “YouÂ’ll have to blame my math teachers in school if this doesnÂ’t make sense, but if we have 67% growth [for the PlayStation 3] over last year in our revenue, and if 45% of all software sold is on our three platforms, IÂ’ll take that kind of disaster all year long.” Read more about the interview in the full article, including how Sony plans to sell 33 million units of hardware by the end of their fiscal year.
Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, related his confidence for Sony’s future in a recent interview. He expressed how Sony has fared for the past year and then relates its goals for the rest of the fiscal year.
In the interview, it was suggested that some people might think that the year was “disastrous” for Sony, considering that they were the first in the previous generation but the third among the next-gen consoles. Tretton replied:
I guess the way that I would keep score, and you know, again, youÂ’ll have to blame my math teachers in school if this doesnÂ’t make sense, but if we have 67% growth over last year in our revenue, and if 45% of all software sold is on our three platforms, IÂ’ll take that kind of disaster all year long.
He further added that Sony expects to sell (sell, not ship) 33 million pieces of hardware by the end of the fiscal year (which is March 31). The 33 million units comprise of 12 million PS2s, 11 million PS3s, and 10 million PSPs.
In addition, Sony plans to sell 250 million units of software across the three platforms. Sounds like Sony’s picking up the pace for next year.
