Japan: Nintendo Wii surpasses quarter-million mark in June sales

The Nintendo Wii console - Image 1With July just starting up this week, it doesn’t look like Nintendo’s success with their Wii console will be slowing down any, according to the latest figures from Famitsu publisher Enterbrain.

According to their data, Nintendo sold a total of 270,974 in Japan during the month of June (ending June 24), with the company’s shares up 0.2 percent at Â¥ 45,200 (US$ 369.3)  earlier this morning. By comparison, Sony’s PlayStation 3 sales for the same time period were at 41,628 units, while Microsoft’s Xbox 360 followed at 17,616. Sony’s shares reportedly fell 0.3 percent to Â¥ 6,310 (US$ 51.5).

To give the guys a better idea of how things are faring for these three next-gen systems, VG Chartz reported last month that the Wii had just hit the 8.1 million mark for units sold worldwide, while the Xbox 360 achieved 10 million, and the PS3 3.42 million.
