Japan: PSP sells more than other consoles combined
Here’s something for the records: the PlayStation Portable sold more than every other console combined in Japan for the week ending on September 23. This says a lot, considering Japan has so far gone for the Nintendo DS and the Wii.
The success of the handheld was no doubt boosted by the release of the PSP Slim and Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, which incidentally also topped the Japanese charts for games. This marks the second week in a row that both the console and the game has reigned on Japan’s best sellers.
The PSP sold 277,794 units that week, with the DS in second place with 70,523 units, and the Wii in third with 24,992 units. The PS2 is in fourth place (11,373 units) and the PS3 on fifth (10,732 units). Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII reigning supreme with 109,000 units sold that week with Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus in second with 93,000 units.
