Japan: PSP sells nearly as much as all other consoles combined
The PSP’s on a roll in Japan. The handheld remains in the top spot, which it claimed last March 16. That’s not all though: as the cherry on top of a very large layer of icing, the PSP sold nearly as much as all the consoles did combined! Details after the “read more” link below.
It’s been a while since the PSP had since this kind of ginormous success in Japan. For the week ending on March 30, the Sony handheld sold nearly as much as all the other consoles combined, scooping up almost 50% of the market share.
Not only has it managed to maintain its place from the previous week, but it’s also sold more than twice what it did then. On the week of March 16, the PSP led the pack at 57,651units sold. Its current 129,986 figure is more than twice that.
The handheld’s success is attributed to Capcom‘s release of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which recently topped Japan’s software charts at an amazing 880,000 units sold. Here are the rest of the hardware sales in Japan for the week of March 30:
- PSP – 129,986
- DS Lite – 58,916
- Wii – 48,785
- PS3 – 11,206
- PS2 – 10,296
- Xbox 360 – 1,547
