Japan: PSP still best selling; sold more units than Wii since January
The PSP’s on a pretty solid sales streak in Japan. It’s been selling more than any other platform in the region since it landed on top last March 16. Sales seem to have plateaued a bit, but it’s still leading strong. Another thing of note: ever since January, the PSP has already sold more then the Wii. More in the full article.
Japan‘s been opening its arms to the PSP for the last few weeks. Thanks to continuously strong sales of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, the PSP is still maintaining its lead on the other hardware platforms for the week ending on May 4.
Seeing as how strong the PSP’s been lately, some might also get a hoot out of these sales figures: So far this year, the PSP has sold more than Nintendo’s mainstay, the Wii, selling 1.6 million units since January. The Wii sold about 1.3 million.
Monster Hunter is still going strong in second place in Japan’s software charts, but how long will its sales continue to pull along PSP sales? One can only wonder. Here’s the hardware sales chart in Japan for the week of May 4:
- Sony PSP: 100,870
- Nintendo Wii: 71,518
- Nintendo DS: 52,542
- PlayStation 3: 10,177
- PlayStation 2: 8,802
- Xbox 360: 1,725
