This past week saw the release of a game that’s been consistently on the Top 10 Most Wanted list of Famitsu for the past ten years. I am talking about Mother 3, the sequel to the game we know as Earthbound. Even though absolutely no information was revealed on the game for years, it’s still been in the Top 10. It rose to the number one spot without any problem. In addition, not only did it outsell everything else, it spurred hardware sales to rise as well. The DS Lite, GB Micro, GBA SP, and GBA all sold more than they did last week. The GB Micro actually sold more than four times last week’s figures while the GBA SP’s almost doubled!

Also, we can now see that the original Nintendo DS is finally being sold out. It was the #2 console last week, but supplies must be almost used up with the arrival of the DS Lite. It might just make the push to 6.5 million sold before it’s finally put to rest. The DS Lite on the other hand has almost certainly hit 1 million by now.

In other console news, the PSP beat out the PS2 for the first time in a while. However, numbers are unimpressive when you consider the fact that the White PSP Core System launched last week. It also beat the original DS, something it doesn’t exactly do regularly, but that’s not really saying anything anymore. Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai did make the top 5 though. The highly anticipated Okami hit PS2s and so did Dragon Quest: Yangus. Both cracked the top 10.

Good news for Xbox 360 fans, its sales were also more than double last week’s amount, mostly due to the #11 game of the week, Ninety-Nine Nights. Hopefully games like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey will also spur sales.
