Japanese Developer Calls Wii “Gay”
With all the derogatory terms being used to describe the new (well, not so new anymore) name for the Nintendo Wii, you’d hope that nobody over the age of 13 would be using terms like “gay.” Well, some crackpot old fool at a large Japanese publisher has called it just that in a 1up article.
“Gay. Sorry if that offended. I hate using that word in the pejorative sense, but it totally applies this time. That’s how terrible I think it is. Seriously, what that tells me is that Nintendo has given up all pretense of making this a serious consumer electronics platform that mainstream American can get behind. Joe Schmoe from middle America can’t say ‘Wii’ with a straight face, whereas he has no trouble saying ‘360’ or ‘PS3.’ Nintendo basically threw up their hands and said, ‘You know what? We’re not even going to try to be taken seriously.'”
The others were able to explain what they disliked about the system’s name without resorting to homophobic insults. What next, saying the Wii is some type of minority? This guy’s lucky his name and company were kept anonymous or we’d see some boycotting. To see what the others have to say about it, read on.
