Japanese Games Publishers Say PS3 Will Definitely Sell, Wii Maybe Not So Well
Japanese games publishers, including Square Enix and Bandai Namco, at Japan’s CESA (Computer Entertainment Software Association) shared their views on future developments of gaming and Sony can let out a sigh of relief. Shin Unozawa, Bandai Namco Games’ vice president said “The PlayStation 3 will definitely sell.“
Unozawa also cited probable bumps along Wii’s way because middle school and high school gamers may not take to it as expected and that third parties may have a harder time making games for it compared to other Nintendo platforms. “With Nintendo hardware, your biggest rival is Nintendo,” he observed.
Meanwhile Square Enix president Yoichi Wada noted the importance of online gaming, not just MMORPG but all titles. Wada mentioned a future game system where players would download the first chapter of a game for free, then make payments in order to download subsequent chapters. This online purchasing system will also allow easy ad placement in games according to Wada which may or may not be something gamers are looking forward to. Probably not. Wada also pointed out that permanent online connections makes it possible to update game software. “Game makers have, until now, incurred great cost during development for debugging,” he said. “Perhaps we can reduce this cost.”
