John Lee talks about Hudson Wii titles and the Virtual Console

Hudson Entertainment logo - Image 1Yesterday, we informed you that Hudson has five titles coming to the Wii’s Virtual Console this April. Aside from that, Hudson also has numerous titles for the Wii – Bomberman Land, Kororinpa: Marble Mania, and Wing Island. With that, Nintendojo had a short chit-chat with Hudson Entertainment‘s Director of Marketing, John Lee and they talked about Hudson’s leap forward with the Wii and the DS.

He disclosed that when they first encountered the Wiimote, they reacted “initially with a bit of “What the heck is this?”, then with an “ah ha” moment, and then with wild imagination of what could be done!” He also said that Hudson and Wii have the same philosophies in the sense that both are trying to create fun and innovative games with new ways of playing or controlling. They are finding new ways to entertain people and for them, developing games isn’t all about next-gen graphics.

As for Bomberman Land landing on the U.S. shores, Lee said that:

It’s currently in evaluation for the US market. One thing we are attempting to do is reestablish Hudson as a publisher again in the US market….So for Bomberman Land Wii, we want to be more strategic about it. We also have a Bomberman Land 2 DS and Bomberman Land PSP in the works as well. It makes sense for us to coordinate the launch of these titles so that we have a bigger launch event, which will generate better awareness…If and when we bring this series to the US, we’ll do a better-coordinated launch to highlight the Bomberman Land series..

And for his take on Hudson’s older titles (Bravoman, Bonk’s Revenge, Battle Lode Runner, Shockman, and Dragon’s Curse) making their way to the Virtual Console, he said that it’s a dream come true for him since he has always loved the classic Turbo games. Well, we are sure that it’s also a dream come true for most gamers who have grown up with these TurboGrafx-16 games.
