Karakker: “all PS3 units in stores sold out”

Uh-oh.Remember Brian Crecente‘s now-infamous photo of a stack of unsold PS3s at a store? Well it seems that the mainstream media has picked up on it and has even been featured on ABC News. Now, it was featured, not because it’s a photo of a stack of unsold PS3s, but because it runs contrary to Dave Karraker’s fresh statement where he claims that “Everything that we put on store shelves sold out.”

*Looks at photo* Right.

In any case, ABC isn’t about to go and bash Sony‘s new baby. They do however, bring to light the question of the console’s actual numbers and availability, and if perhaps announcements of the PS3’s limited numbers may actually be nothing more than a tactic to stir up a frenzy. They are quick to point out though that “Rumors and speculation surround every console launch”, as quoted from Michael Gartenberg of Jupiter Research.

ABC notes, though, that the battle between consoles isn’t over yet and that the real test will be during the Holiday season of 2007, as by then, companies would have already produced more of their hardware and released more promising software.
