Kaz “No Worries” Hirai: PS3 Is Right On Time
After admitting that the PS3 is not in yet in the production stage, Kaz Hirai appears to be still sleeping soundly at night, just two months before the console’s launch. In an interview with Dean Takahashi, Hirai says Sony is confident it will have the 2 million units available by November and will ship 2 million more by March 31 of 2007.
While industry experts are shaking their heads at Hirai, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, he simply said “I’ve been through this three times now. We are tracking to meet our targets. At the end of the day we’ll meet our commitments.”
Hirai also brushed aside any comparisons with the Xbox 360 launching glitches where only 1.5 million units were available by the end of 2005. Unlike MS, Sony outsources less parts than MS, thereby giving Sony “tighter control on manufacturing.” Whether this is false bravado or a giant pair of moxies dangling between Kaz’s legs, all will be revealed come the PS3 D-Day. Meanwhile, if Kaz ain’t worried, we’re not worried.
