When the developers at Electronic Arts set out to create the FIFA Street franchise, they wanted to throw away everything conventional when it came to soccer and literally see where everything would kick off from there.
The latest in the series, FIFA Street 3 (Xbox 360, PS3, DS), takes a page off this concept with its off-the-wall arcade style of unconventional gameplay. You definitely can’t get any more unconventional than the different locales your team of football-happy players can engage in.
From the rooftops of a bustling downtown city, to a bridge overpass, to even an abandoned oil rig, the developers wanted to see some hardcore soccer action in just about any place asides from the typical stadium field.
The game includes up to seven different locales (Beach, Rooftop, Mediterranean, Samba, Shipyard, Riverside and Oil Rig), with an additional three new locations available as downloadable content.
The developers’ goal was to create an alternate sort of reality, where real-life players can actually blend in to some of the rather improbable environments the game throws them in. Considering the fast-paced arcade style of gameplay, seeing Ronaldinho play on a rooftop in an unnamed Asian city actually looks quite natural.
FIFA Street 3 is scheduled to be released next month on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and the Nintendo DS.
