Killzone 2: a closer look at the Assault Trooper and the Battle Rifle
If you’ve played the previous games in the Killzone series, you might have noticed that they look even more menacing in Killzone 2. That’s because they are. Go to the full article for a more detailed look at the Assault Trooper of Killzone 2, and also for a profile of the StA-14, the Battle Rifle.
Even the gamer with the least knowledge of Killzone would know – or has at least seen – the Assault Trooper, the series’ Helghast rank and file. So of course, it will be a playable class in the upcoming beta.
If you’ve played the previous games, you might have noticed that they look even more menacing in Killzone 2. That’s because they are. Not only have their skills been updated for the next-gen console, but they’ve been given a meaner look as well. Check out the “before and after” pics of the Assault Trooper when game’s visual team got a hold of their uniforms:
The added level in detail was possible thanks to the PlayStation 3’s capabilities. The image to the right of that sums up what the Assault Trooper’s packing on the field. Aside from the reinforced armor, he’s also equipped with grenades and the StA-52 assault rifle.
Speaking of rifles, here’s a closer look at the StA-14 Battle Rifle, a healthy combination (not for the one on the wrong end though) of the assault rifle and the sniper rifle:
The Battle Rifle is reliable, accurate, and far reaching. The drawback is, it’s slow to reload after a round is fired. Not uber slow, but slow enough that it’s more effective as a defensive weapon than an offensive one. If you’re a genius in the battlefield though, go for it.
Killzone 2 will be released next year February. You’ll be able to meet the Assault Trooper and the rest of the crew when the multiplayer beta hits sometime this October (hopefully).
