Guerrilla Games has detailed the new Killzone 2 patch 1.24 which will be going live tomorrow. This is the biggest one yet, and aside from fixing bugs and exploits it also adds new functionalities like a new search game filter and three new ranks.

The new hardcore ranks, which are reached at 5,000, 10,000, and 100,000 points respectively, don’t really give out any rewards. Killzone 2‘s lead online game designer, Eric Boltjes, explained that they’re basically a way for the real hardcore players to show off their hard work.

As for the new search filter, Boltjes said that it was “a direct request from the community because a lot of people think the Â’sweet spotÂ’ of the multiplayer levels is around 24 players instead of 32 and are creating custom games accordingly.” Same thing with the Join Clan Member tab.

Boltjes also talked about how they’re addressing complaints about the lack of a party system in the game. While it’s still not there, this patch does add some new features that should make it easier for gamers to play with their friends online:

These features include being able to join the same faction of a friend already in-game directly from the join game menus, manually being able to switch faction during gameplay and making existing squads consistent over multiple rounds; no more need to create a new squad every single round.
