Koei Enters Next-gen With Titles For PS3

ShibusawaI guess Koei co-founder Kou Shibusawa knew what he was talking about when he said, “Each of our games is unique and there are aspects to them that you won’t find in other games.” After all, it was his stamp of approval that made possible the entry of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Kessen, Nobunaga’s Ambition, and Dynasty Warriors into the gaming world. And now that the game systems are being ushered into the next-generation, Shibusawa promises that Koei games will not be left behind. “Our development has gradually shifted to the next-generation platforms and portable systems. Next year, a lot of our titles will be released for next-generation systems as well as handhelds including Nintendo DS and PSP,” he confides.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms

But the next-generation consoles are not just Koei’s focus. With titles such as Gitaroo Man Lives! and Fatal Inertia, Koei is trying to go beyond the simulations and hack ‘n’ slash actioners they’ve been famous for; they are currently “trying to create games from genres [they] have never explored”.

As we’ve already mentioned, Koei will highlight Fatal Inertia and Bladestorm: The Hundred Years’ War this E3 – both of which are Koei’s offerings for the next-gen console Playstation 3. To those who were disappointed that the classic strategy simulation game series Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which was based on Luo Guanzhong’s Chinese historical novel of the same title, will not be introduced to PS3 don’t lose hope…Shibusawa leaves a promising “Please expect it”.
