Those against Atomic GamesSix Days in Fallujah (PS3, Xbox 360) can now breathe a sigh of relief as publisher Konami has dropped the controversial game due to the negative reaction it generated.

“After seeing the reaction to the videogame in the United States and hearing opinions sent through phone calls and e-mail, we decided several days ago not to sell it,” said a Konami rep. “We had intended to convey the reality of the battles to players so that they could feel what it was like to be there.”

Six Days in Fallujah immediately caught the attention — and wrath — of veterans, citizens’ groups and bereaved family members of soldiers when it was revealed earlier this month. The game is based on the battles in Fallujah, Iraq, which occurred in November 2004.

Interestingly enough, some soldiers fully supported the game’s creation. Fallujah veterans were also instrumental in its inception.

Atomic has yet to announce if it will shop the game around to other publishers.
