Konami files ‘Metal Gear Solid Existence’ trademark… but for what?

Courage is SOLID - Image 1Konami has filed an intriguing new label for their Metal Gear franchise, and it’s called “Metal Gear Solid Existence“. Time to cast in your bets! Is it a new game? Does it follow events after Guns of the Patriots – or just an enhanced edition much like MGS3: Subsistence? Could it be the title of that MGS feature-length movie they keep talking about?

Even before the so-called “last” installment in Solid Snake‘s adventure was released, there were already talks of the next Metal Gear title. Hideo Kojima himself said that, though Snake’s story arc may have already gotten closure, that doesn’t mean to say that the franchise is at an absolute end.

Whatever the case may be, and whoever’s story line (Johnny Sasaki?!) the next Metal Gear title might follow, Konami has filed a new trademark for the franchise: Metal Gear Solid: Existence. Note the inclusion of “Solid” in the trademark.

First instinct might have you think it’s probably going to take MGS4 and follow Kojima Productions’ line of enhanced editions, much like what they did for MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistence. Now with an “MGS4: Existence“, everything comes to full circle… or not.

Again, note the trademark. They excluded the “4”, so chances are it might not have anything to do with Guns of the Patriots.

Nothing else is known about Metal Gear Solid Existance, other than Konami registering the name. It could be anything from a new title for the PSP, or maybe some form of DLC available on the PSN. You could even go so far as assuming this as the title of the feature-length movie they’re planning, or, of course, the actual “MGS5” that Ryan Payton pretty much already confirmed a few weeks ago.
