Speaking to MTV Multiplayer, Konami associate product manager Mondona Akhazan said that Rock Revolution was initially designed to be more of a drum-focused game.
“We have our competitors out there that created games that are focused more around the guitars,” said Akhazan, “so with this we really wanted to pay homage to the drummer.”
Although it has six pads compared to Rock Band‘s four and Guitar Hero: World Tour‘s (Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii) five, the Rock Revolution drum kit will still be compatible with the aforementioned games and vice versa.
If you’re using a Rock Band or Guitar Hero drum kit in Rock Revolution, the game will automatically reconfigure the drum tracks depending on how many inputs the peripheral you’re using has.
The standalone version of Rock Revolution comes out on October 14. The game will also be released with a bundled drum peripheral in mid-November.
