Lara Croft creator, SCi Entertainment takeover talks renewed
The adventure isn’t over for our favorite tomb raider, Lara Croft. Neither is it over for her creator, SCi Entertainment. Takeover talks for the publisher have surfaced once again, and certain companies are once again being eyed as Lara’s suitors. Details in the full article.
It’s the season for takeovers in the video game industry. Remember last year when SCi Entertainment, owner and creator of the Tomb Raider franchise, announced that its open to being taken over by third parties?
It’s been a while since we heard of any developments. Until now that is. Last we heard, SCi was unsuccessful in courting any suitors for Lara. Angry shareholders soon demanded a change in management, which resulted in resignations being handed in.
Now, SCi has itself a new CEO and talks of a takeover have been renewed. With takeover speculation up in the air again, SCi shares rose 7.25p higher, now at 57.5p. None too soon after recently reporting a GBP 80 million (US$ 160 million) half year loss.
The word is, SCi is considering an 80p per share offer (about US$ 2 a pop). Potential suitors for Lara include Time Warner and Ubisoft, who were the biggest names being thrown around last year. Also named was French group Infogrames.
Hopefully, Lara will find herself in good hands, whoever finally gets to take her hand. We’ll keep you posted so check back for updates.
