Last-Minute Delays for HD-DVD Launch ?
We just reported some time back that HD-DVD Players might be coming sooner than you think. Tuesday, next week to be specific. Well, it seems that might not be the case.
Major Online retailers have just revealed that they haven’t got any shipments yet. Early today, Best Buy extended the estimated arrival time of both the the Toshiba HD-DVD players to a week long window, ranging from the 17th to the 24th of April.
Amazon also announced that their debut HD-DVD, ‘Million Dollar Baby‘ will be delayed to at least the 20th of April, signalling a postponement of 2 days. Their website stated, “Due to production issues, this title will not be available on April 18.”
Although no official announcements have been made, the PR reps of both Universal and Warner have said that they have yet to receive any copies of the HD-DVD discs for distribution to the media. On the contrary, standard DVD Releases are made available to the media at least 10 days before the street date.
It is quite normal to see some bumps during the release of any new major consumer electronics. Whether or not any of these things lead to a delay is anyones guess. Nonetheless, people should be ready for any delays to the earlier stated Friday release date.
