Latest Updates For EverQuest

ClericSony Online Entertainment has been busy making improvements for its game, EverQuest. These improvements include zone graphic and character upgrades. The latter apparently involves the introduction of a new race into the world of EverQuest. Lead designer Travis McGeathy has this to say on the subject:

Part of the reason for this new race is to work on some cost effective methods for creating player characters in our current graphics engine. If this goes as planned then we will be in much better shape to see how we might be able to SLOWLY tackle the existing races. Let me make it clear that this is not a promise but we are working towards a possible solution.”

For those of you wondering about the Death System – yes, some revisions are in the works. In the past, when your character is slain, its ghost has had a bad habit of wandering off into another zone, causing some “double-zoning” issues. McGeathy is experimenting with a new system in which a ghost hovers above its corpse while awaiting resurrection. This will be thoroughly tested during the next expansion’s beta period before its release to the public.

Meanwhile, you can look forward to new, exciting in-game events and activities. Check the Event Gazette for a schedule of events, as well as info on the upcoming Festival of Might.

Says McGeathy, “We are happy with the overall direction we have been going with the game. Our mantra is… to add depth and complexity to the current game instead of just adding on top. This goes for storylines, expansions, zone revamps, new featuresÂ…everything. We are also continuing to take all unnecessary frustrations out as well. This includes some changes to the death system and lessening the amount of downtime that some classes experience.”

Hopefully, addressing that downtime issue will eliminate some of the “botting” that takes place in EQ as well.
