Aaron Hill has released his 20-hour DS homebrew project called LegoCadsDS v01 Alpha. It is based on a simple virtual modelling program called Mike's LEGO Computer Aided Design (MLCAD) designed for use with LEGO parts. Aaron also credits LDraw - a free software for modeling Lego creations in 3D - for inspiring him to create this app. What the app does is draw 3D boxes of different sizes Aaron calls bricks. Like real bricks you can cement them together to make walls or other structures. LegocadDS v.01 Alpha uses the following key controls:
- D-pad: move blocks around
- X: cement" block
- R': flip screen
This is the alpha version and there are a number of functions Aaron is working on for the next release:
- Add a save function.
- Add ability to create any part from the Ldraw library
- Few tweaks here and there
- Add textures
- Add some cosmetic enhancements
- Stylus camera control
