Level 1 gameplay video of TMNT Arcade for XBLA
If you spent all your spare change on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Arcade game at the Chuck E. Cheese’s US chain of pizza parlors (where a kid can be a kid), the TMNT arcade classic on Xbox Live is a welcome blast from the past. This is in addition to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game from Ubisoft that will be released March of 2007 (based on the upcoming TMNT movie).
Here are some details about TMNT Arcade. So put in Blind Melon’s “No Rain” into your cassette player, close your eyes and go back to the early 90s…
- TMNT Arcade was released by Konami in 1989, 1990, and 1991. In the UK, it was known as Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles because of problems with the word “ninja” – strange, but true.
- Foot soldiers came in different colors: Purple: These guys were either unarmed (jump-kicking their way into the screen) or had a spear or missile; a few would jump out, throw dynamite, and then rush at the Turtles. White: These had a knives (for stabbing or throwing) or one katana. Orange: These had shurikens (ninja throwing stars) or a machine gun. Yellow: Boomerang. Pink: Sledgehammer.
- In the video below, you can see the Roadkill Rodney units. These machines come out of the ground and attack with laser guns and an electric lasso.
- The video below shows the first level (Fire! We Gotta Get April Out!) where you have to beat Rocksteady. The end of the video has a spoiler: Shredder comes in and kidnaps April.
It’s not yet clear when TMNT Arcade will be available. But we’re sure it’s coming to XBLA. Aren’t you glad you got an Xbox 360? Turtle power!
