LiraNuna Rewrites WonDerS
To compete with then market leader in Japan’s gaming market, Nintendo’s Game Boy Color, Bandai released the handheld game console WonderSwan in 1999. Developed by original Nintendo Game Boy developer Gunpei Yokoi, the WonderSwan later on evolved to WonderSwan Color.
This console has already been ported by LiraNuna into the Nintendo DS with WonDerS v1.1. LiraNuna has currently been rewriting his WonderSwan emulator, using the DS’ HW instead of “some crappy framebuffer renderer”. Currently, there are 4bit tiles implemented in the emulator and resulted to more than 120% speed boost.
LiraNuna is still in the process of the rewrite and will be releasing the new WonDerS version soon. In the meantime, he leaves us with these screenshots to “tease” us.
