No news on how image importing will work exactly, but USB drives and memory sticks will most likely be part of the process.
So why didn’t they put it in the game to begin with, you ask. Because if they did, the game wouldn’t have been released until much, much later. So thank your lucky sticker stars that you got the game earlier than the feature.
