Littlewoods defends their “overpriced” PS3 units

LittlewoodsAnd so the altercation, albeit in writing, between gaming site SPOnG and U.K. generalist retailer, Littlewoods, continues. A couple of days ago, SPOnG ran an article about the oddly priced PS3 bundles over at the retail store. By oddly priced, we meant a PS3 60GB hard drive console plus Motorstorm cost buyers a whopping GBP 549.00 (US$ 1,081).

Interestingly enough, SPOnG finds a response at their doorstep today, from Stephen Bray, the Corporate Communications Manager of Littlewoods. The response reads:

The prices listed for PS3 are intended to reflect the approximate selling price that Littlewoods Shop Direct Goods (LWSDG) anticipates setting, but as yet cannot be confirmed. It is expected that LWSDG will be able to confirm its actual selling prices during 2007.

We’re sorry, but what are you saying? If those are the prices Littlewoods is anticipating, they actually confirmed that they are guilty of overpricing. The HMV group of companies had been repeating that the PS3 units are expected to be tagged at £ 350.00 for the 20GB units and £ 425.00 for the 60GB ones.

SPOnG is apparently not satisfied with the response and so they sent another letter. This time, the letter is shorter, more direct . It reads:

The price listed online at £549 is not in line with your statement. Can you confirm why you are selling the PlayStation 3 at GBP 549.00?

We’ll tell you more about this matter as more details pass by in the coming days.
