M4 Mac small rumored to have undergone a makeover to make it smaller than previously.

Renderings of a rumored redesign of the M2 Mac Mini that didn’t happen
Last updated 54 minutes agoRecent news reports suggest that one of the M4 Macs is getting a redesign in the near future. A new rumor has identified the model to receive it – the Mac Mini. It’s clear that a Mac mini M4 is on its way. The form factor change was not clear until Thursday’s report. The new rumor claims that the device’s form factor will be much smaller than its current size, which has existed for over 15 years. Bloomberg reported on Thursday that the device would be similar in size to the Apple TV set top box. The report discusses the Apple TV’s size, but it’s unclear whether the redesign will be flatter or taller, like the Apple TV. Apple Silicon Macs do not have expandable storage or RAM, so this is no longer a factor in determining the size of the enclosure, as it was with the Intel version. Rumors suggest that the device will have three USB-C ports, plus a HDMI port and space for the power cord. Both models are codenamed “J773.” Apple suppliers plan to ship the core M4 Mac Mini to Apple in August for a release in 2024. A M4 Pro version is expected to ship in October. The rumor is plausible. Apple Silicon Mac Mini form factor is mostly empty and was designed for thermally robustness enough to support the notoriously hot Intel Processors that were once in the unit. This thermal demand no longer exists. It’s not clear what form the unit will take. An earlier rumor suggested a squat design made of all-aluminum. Rumors at the time talked about a possible “M1X Mac mini” that moved the power plug to the outside, reusing an iMac power connector. The renders we did about a rumored Mac mini M2 above illustrate this.
