Recently there’s been a rash of complaints coming from the Mac user population playing Blizzard‘s World of Warcraft. It seems that a recent bug has caused an atrocious slowdown in some of the newer areas of the latest 2.4 PTR.

WoW forum poster Dotful first noted the problem when her character experienced getting only around 4 FPS while playing on the PTR, with even slower frame rates upon reaching the Sunwell areas. Several other Mac users on the forums also confirmed this.

Thankfully, Blizzard’s resident Mac Technical Support expert Tigerclaw was on the case and explained that a new build they were already working on was currently addressing the problem. Tigerclaw explained the situation in a post on the WoW forums:

There has been a lot of progress on this issue here, and upcoming revisions should be running faster in the default state (M2UseShaders=1). Build numbers higher than 7983 should include the fixes, though there may still be some bugs we need exercised.

Other Mac users who haven’t updated their current build of WoW‘s PTR are advised to log on and download the new build to avoid any similar problems.
