Madden Graphics: Wii Vs. Xbox360

In an interview that IGN scored with Madden NFL 07‘s producer Jason Armenise, they talked about almost everything there is to know about the Wii version of the game. We’ve already featured the said IGN interview here in QJ, but just in case you guys don’t have the time to actually read the epic 4-page interview, this article will focus on the game’s aspect that a lot of you are probably pondering on — visual and graphic differences of the Wii Madden and the Xbox 360 version.

Jason Armenise says that everytime they talk about the Madden game for Wii, they always get asked the ‘graphics question’. According to him, their goal graphics-wise when they started developing the game for Wii was to to challenge the Xbox 360 version, or at the very least, make it look better than the Xbox version.

So here’s what they’ve done to make the game visually advanced than the GameCube and look better than in the Xbox:

1) HD compliance – you can play 480p and 16:9 widescreen. This means that HDTV owners can play the game using their component outputs and play in 480p and 16:9 widescreen while running at 60 frames per second.
2) Texture quality – the Wii version of Madden has a higher texture quality on players, and according to Armenise, in many cases, the quality is even higher than the Xbox version.
3) Additional features:
– depth of field
– contact shadows – the shadow of one player bleeds onto the shadow of another)
– cinematic lens effect – like looking through an actual tv camera and straight lines get a bit bowed
– grass – the grass is greener on the Wii side…literally. The Wii version has more depth and looks more lush than in GameCube

All in all, Armenise says that the Wii Madden definitely looks much better than the GameCube version, and believes that the graphics on Wii does challenge the Xbox360 version in some places. It’s funny how Armenise seems a lot careful in saying SOME places, perhaps he has anticipated that Xbox360 Madden fanatics will react. Hmm…
